An unrecognised or misspelled city comes back as an error rather than a guess, so nothing is silently wrong. There is no forecast here — this is what it is doing now.
What happens to your data
The city name you type is sent to our own /api/weather route, which asks an upstream weather service and returns the answer. Your browser never talks to that service directly, so your IP is not exposed to it — and your device location is never requested or used, which is why you have to type the city.

You are trying to work out whether to take a coat somewhere you are not standing. A flight landing tomorrow, a match on Saturday, a parent three time zones away who insists it is fine there. The phone in your pocket answers confidently for the pavement outside your window and makes everywhere else oddly hard work — add a city, grant a permission, install an app.
Two different questions get asked of weather, and they deserve different amounts of trust. What it is doing right now sits close to observation, and the block at the top answers it: temperature, the feels-like figure, humidity, wind and a one-line description of the sky. What the week will do is a model's opinion, and the row of cards underneath answers that — seven of them, each with a high and a low. Read the weekday labels rather than assuming the first card is tomorrow.
Decide one thing before you type: a city name is not a precise place. The search takes the single best match for what you enter, so a Richmond, a Springfield or a Cambridge can land in a country you did not mean. The name and country printed above the temperature is the check — read it before you read the number. A reading also describes one point rather than a whole city, so a hilltop suburb and a river valley will not agree.
A place search resolves names rather than addresses, so a house number gives it little to work with — and what comes back is a summary of conditions, not a station report: no hourly breakdown and no rainfall totals.
How it works
Toolvore resolves what you type in two steps, both against Open-Meteo. The first call is a place search asked for a single result, which turns a name into a latitude, a longitude and a country. The second asks the forecast endpoint for the current temperature, apparent temperature, relative humidity, wind speed at ten metres and a numeric weather code, plus seven days of codes with daily maxima and minima, with the time zone set to the place rather than to you. The written description is not prose from the service: the code is looked up in a fixed table of about thirty entries, and the icon is chosen by matching words like rain, snow, cloud or fog inside that description, so a code outside the table shows a dash and falls back to a generic icon. Where it is weakest is presentation. Wind arrives as a number and is printed without a unit beside it. The day cards carry a plain degree sign rather than the unit string the current reading shows. And responses are held for fifteen minutes, so refreshing straight away returns the same figures rather than a newer reading.

Frequently asked questions
Why do two weather sites show different temperatures for the same city?+
Different sources run different models and describe different points. A city covers a lot of ground, and a forecast model divides the world into a grid, so any figure belongs to one cell rather than to the whole place. Two sites can also resolve the same name to different coordinates, blend station observations differently, and round at different stages. Add update intervals that do not line up, and one page can be twenty minutes behind another. A degree or two of disagreement is ordinary and is not evidence that either is broken. A gap of ten degrees usually means the two are describing places that happen to share a name.
How many days ahead is a weather forecast actually reliable?+
Confidence drops with range, and it drops unevenly. The next day or two is usually close on temperature and broadly right about whether rain arrives. By days four and five the pattern is more dependable than the detail — a front is coming, but not at a stated hour. Past about a week, a daily maximum is better read as a tendency than a number to plan around. Temperature holds up longer than precipitation, because rain is patchy in space and time in a way that heat is not, so a dry-looking day six is a weaker promise than a mild-looking one. Check again the day before it matters.
What does feels-like temperature actually mean?+
It is a calculated estimate of how air behaves against skin, not a second thermometer reading. In cold weather, wind strips heat away faster than still air does, so a blustery five degrees is reported as colder than five. In warm weather, humidity is the factor: sweat evaporates slowly in damp air, cooling works less well, and the same number feels hotter. That is why a feels-like figure can sit either side of the real one. It assumes a person standing in shade, so direct sun adds to it again, and clothing, how hard you are working and how acclimatised you are shift it further still.
Why does a city search return the wrong place?+
Place names repeat, and this search asks for one best match rather than offering you a list. There are many Richmonds, Springfields and Cambridges, and the one ranked first tends to be the largest or best known, which need not be yours. The country printed beside the name above the temperature is the check — read it before you read the number. Where a name is ambiguous, adding the country or a larger nearby city to what you type usually moves the match. A name it cannot place at all comes back as a short message repeating what you typed, so you never get a confident number for somewhere unintended.
Where does my search go, and is my location tracked?+
The only thing that leaves your browser is the city name you typed, sent to this site's own weather route. That route makes two calls onward — one to turn the name into coordinates, one for the conditions — so the upstream service sees this site's server rather than your machine. Your browser's location permission is never requested and no geolocation call exists in the page, which is precisely why the city has to be typed. There is no account and nothing to sign into. Answers are cached briefly on the server, keyed by the place rather than by anything about you, and the result on screen lives in the tab until you search again.
Is the temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit, and how do I convert?+
The figures arrive in whatever unit the upstream service returns, and that unit is printed next to the large number so you can see which you have. There is no switch on the page to change it. Converting by hand takes a moment: multiply Celsius by nine, divide by five, add thirty-two. Going the other way, subtract thirty-two first, then multiply by five and divide by nine. For a rough answer in your head, double the Celsius figure and add thirty — that lands within a couple of degrees across ordinary outdoor temperatures, and only drifts noticeably at extremes. Note that the day cards show a bare degree symbol rather than the unit.
Why does eighty per cent humidity feel so different in different places?+
Relative humidity says how close air is to saturation at its current temperature, not how much water it is carrying. Cold air saturates with very little moisture, so eighty per cent on a January morning is a small absolute amount and passes unnoticed. Eighty per cent at thirty degrees is a great deal of water, and sweat stops evaporating. That is why an identical percentage is unremarkable in one place and oppressive in another, and why the figure alone is a poor guide to comfort. Dew point is the more useful number, because it tracks actual moisture — much above eighteen degrees reads as sticky to most people.
How is wind speed measured, and why does it feel windier than the number?+
Standard readings are taken about ten metres above open ground, clear of hedges, fences and parked cars, and above the friction that slows air at street level. What you feel is that flow shaped by local terrain: a gap between two buildings can accelerate it noticeably, while a sheltered garden sits well below the stated figure. A single speed is also an average over a period rather than a peak, and gusts run well above it — gusts are what slam doors and unsettle cyclists. Wind also multiplies cold, so a modest number can dominate how a winter day feels regardless of the temperature beside it.
