Crop PDF Pages
Trim visible PDF margins locally. Cropping hides content; it does not redact it.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your data is never uploaded, never stored, and never leaves your device.
Reduce the visible CropBox of all or selected PDF pages using margins mapped through page rotation; hidden content remains and this is not redaction.
How to use it
- 1Choose an ordinary PDF up to 25 MiB and 300 pages.
- 2Choose all pages or enter physical page positions/ranges.
- 3Set displayed-edge margins in points, millimetres or inches and inspect visible sizes.
- 4Create and download a separate cropped copy; use redaction to remove sensitive data.
Example
- Input
- 90° page, CropBox(10,20,380,560); T20/R30/B40/L10 pt
- Output
- CropBox(30,30,320,520); visible 520 × 320 pt
MediaBox, rotation and hidden content are retained.
What happens to your data
CropBox changes stay local without content upload or browser-storage persistence. Page assets and anonymous usage events may use the network. Cropping does not remove hidden content or metadata.
Last updated October 2026
Crop the visible edges of a PDF to remove scanner borders or adjust a reading copy's page view. Apply top, right, bottom and left margins to all pages or an explicit selection. Margins refer to the page as displayed, including supported rotation, and reduce the existing visible CropBox.
This is not redaction. Cropping changes the area a viewer normally shows; it does not delete hidden text, images, attachments or metadata. Hidden content remains in the saved PDF and may be recovered. Use a dedicated redaction and sanitization workflow when the goal is removing sensitive information.
How it works
Choose one PDF up to 25 MiB and 300 pages. The initial visible rectangle is the intersection of each page's CropBox and MediaBox. Select all pages or enter physical positions such as 1,3-5. The tool does not crop by detecting blank pixels, automatically straighten a scan, resize page content or reflow paragraphs.
Enter non-negative margins in PDF points, millimetres or inches. One inch is 72 points. Changing units converts the current margins to retain their physical size. Every selected page must retain at least one point of visible width and height; a margin that fits one page may be too large for another. The size summary accounts for mixed page dimensions and rotations.
The displayed edges are mapped back through rotations of 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees before setting a new CropBox. A 90° page's displayed top corresponds to its raw PDF-coordinate left edge. MediaBox, declared rotation, content coordinates, text and image streams are not intentionally changed. Unselected pages retain their existing CropBoxes.
Detected forms, signature/certification structures, annotations or links, non-standard UserUnit pages and unsupported geometry are refused. This tool is not a signature validator or a document sanitizer. Cropped output can retain original document metadata and hidden data; keep the source and inspect the saved copy. Files are processed locally without content upload or browser-storage persistence, with a 50 MiB output cap. Page assets and anonymous usage events may use the network. Changes, replacement, reset and cancellation invalidate an older download.
Worked example: Map asymmetric margins through a rotated page
- Input
- Sample page 2: 90° rotation, CropBox (10,20,380,560) pt; top 20, right 30, bottom 40, left 10 pt
- Result
- CropBox (30,30,320,520) pt; displayed visible size 520 × 320 pt
The 400 × 600 point MediaBox and 90° rotation remain unchanged. Hidden content is retained.
Common use cases
- Hiding visible scanner borders in a reading copy
- Reducing excess visible margins on selected sheets
- Applying consistent edge trims to quarter-turn rotated pages
- Preparing a display copy while keeping the source document
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping a PDF permanently remove hidden text?+
No. CropBox changes only the normal visible area. Hidden text, images and metadata remain in the file and can be recoverable. This tool must not be used as secure redaction.
Do top and left margins follow a rotated page?+
Yes. Margins refer to the displayed orientation. The tool maps them back into raw PDF coordinates for declared rotations of 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees.
Can I crop only certain PDF pages?+
Turn off Crop all pages, then enter physical positions or ranges such as 2,4-6. Unselected pages keep their original crop boxes. Printed footer numbers are not used as selections.
Is the PDF paper size changed?+
The MediaBox stays unchanged, while the visible CropBox becomes smaller. A viewer or printer can use that smaller visible area. Use Resize PDF Pages when you need a new MediaBox or content fitted onto another paper size.
Why is a margin rejected on a mixed-size PDF?+
Every selected page must retain at least one PDF point of visible width and height. A trim that fits a large sheet may erase the visible area of a smaller or rotated sheet. Reduce the margins or select fewer pages.
Can this automatically find and crop blank borders?+
No. You provide explicit margins. The tool does not render and analyze pixels, detect content boundaries or deskew scanned pages.
